Paint it Pink: RESULTS

– Twenty-two years ago, as a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit, Josh Abramson established his company A.Allbright Painting. Over the years his company grew, and so did his commitment to playing an active role in Santa Clarita.

Seven years ago when his beloved grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer, this disease came into the forefront of his life. At 84 years old, she was the matriarch of his family, and he couldn’t imagine life without her. Gratefully, Grandma Millie is now 91 years old and cancer free, but the experience prompted in Josh a need to help the community. “So many people are affected by breast cancer,” says Josh. “I knew there was something we could do.”

Josh wanted to use his business to make a difference in Santa Clarita. He contacted Jackie MacDougall from SCVmomsblog.com about his idea, the “Paint it Pink” campaign, and she supported his venture by participating in a promotional video and posting online discussion groups. She also suggested donating to Circle of Hope, and Josh was impressed that the nonprofit assists breast cancer patients living, working, or receiving treatment in Santa Clarita. “It was a perfect match for us,” says Josh. “Circle of Hope is exactly what I was looking for.”

The “Paint it Pink” campaign ran from February through April, 2010, and for every exterior or interior painting job scheduled, A.Allbright Painting donated 5% (up to $500) to Circle of Hope in honor or in memory of an individual of the client’s choice. It was very successful, and Josh presented COH founder Colleen Shaffer a check for $2,000 at a ceremony held in his office. Colleen comments, “We are so grateful for this company’s generous efforts to help Circle of Hope’s clients.”

When asked why he embarked upon this project, Josh said that he is committed to doing the right thing. “I truly care about Santa Clarita Valley residents, and I look for ways that I can support the community. I believe that all businesses, whether large or small, can contribute their talents to a worthy cause. Once you do, it’s so rewarding that your efforts have made a difference in the lives of local community members. It benefits all of us. ”

Circle of Hope thanks Josh for his passion and generosity. He is an inspiration to businesses throughout the community. Josh says, “We’re hoping to expand the campaign next year and make it an annual event.” For more information visit www.aallbright.com.

Kids Wish Network’s Board of Directors Vote in a New Member: Florida Entrepreneur, Andy Gottlieb

– Andy Gottlieb has dedicated most of his life to helping children in need. In fact, the retired tax accountant is also a certified Broward County teacher who volunteers with the Special Olympics and is a specialized coach in aquatics, basketball and bowling. Also, since 1999, Andy Gottlieb has wholeheartedly and generously supported Florida-based 501(c)(3) charity Kids Wish Network and their programs through the Arnold and Joy Gottlieb Family Foundation, for which he is a trustee.

For the past three years, Andy, through the Arnold and Joy Gottlieb Family Foundation, has supported Kids Wish Network’s Hero of the Month and Holiday of Hope Gift Bank programs at both Chris Evert Children’s Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale and the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida in Ft. Myers. Just recently, Andy also added Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida to his list of sponsored facilities and is currently looking into sponsoring other specialized pediatric care facilities and programs for which to sponsor through Kids Wish Network.

In addition to sponsoring the three hospitals, Andy Gottlieb also volunteers his time for the Holiday of Hope events that occur at the hospitals to celebrate the donations of toys they receive through Kids Wish Network’s Holiday of Hope Gift Bank program. For the past three years, nurses, Child Life Specialists and, of course, the children themselves have enjoyed Andy’s presence at the little parties they throw just as much as he has enjoyed being a part of their celebrations.

Anna Lanzatella, Chief Financial Officer and Director of Development for Kids Wish Network, said, “Words cannot express my true appreciation for all the support the Arnold & Joy Gottlieb Family Foundation have provided to Kids Wish Network throughout the years.  We are especially grateful to Andy Gottlieb. He truly is our Guardian Angel and we are so grateful to have his support.”

Because of his heartfelt dedication to helping children in need, Andy was elected onto Kids Wish Network’s Board of Directors at their most recent board meeting, a position most suited for someone as kind and helpful as Andy Gottlieb truly is.

For more information on Kids Wish Network’s unique programs, please visit their website at www.kidswishnetwork.org. If you know of a hospital that could benefit from its Hero of the Month or Gift Bank programs, please call 727- 937-3600 or toll free at 888-918-9004.

Marriage makes a comeback

– Against all the odds, marriage rates are on the rise in many countries around the world. And if that wasn’t enough, divorce rates are slowly beginning to fall. However, a marriage is still quite a challenge so you’ll need all the help and advice you can get.

Every marriage is different but the vast majority of relationships could benefit from the same little pointers. To give you a helping hand, http://www.womenrepublic.co.uk has put together the top 99 marriage tips to keep your relationship fresh and solid.

Seven of the key points to help keep you out of the divorce courts are as follows:

1. Foundation of trust – without this, any relationship,  is doomed to failure.

2. Unhealthy jealousy – jealousy can quickly turn into paranoia, and in most marriages, paranoia really is a destroyer.

3. Don’t try to change him – you fell in love with whom he is, so don’t try to change him when you are married.

4. Learn how to complain – choosing your words carefully can help prevent an argument or resentment.

5. Keep talking – as soon as you stop communicating, the bond between you starts to loosen.

6. Realisitic expectations – nobody said marriage was easy so remember there will be as many downs as there are ups.

7. Forgive and forget – small mistakes or errors of judgement should be not be allowed to fester and cause problems.
